A New Faction within the APC Ward in Kano Halts the Membership of the Party’s National Chairman, Ganduje
Subsequently, Malam Haladu Gwanjo, professing to be the legal counsel for a different faction within the APC in the Ganduje sector, declared Ganduje's suspension from the party due to accusations of corruption.
Abdullahi Ganduje, once the Governor of Kano State, finds himself suspended anew by a distinct faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within his locality, situated in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the region.
Ganduje holds the position of the party’s National chairman.
Following this, Malam Haladu Gwanjo, asserting his role as the legal advisor for a separate APC faction in the Ganduje territory, proclaimed Ganduje's exclusion from the party, pinpointing allegations of corruption as the groundwork for his suspension.
The legal counselor argues that Ganduje is unfit to remain as the chairman of the party due to the corruption allegations and other misconducts accused of him.
On the contrary, another faction, through the ward chairman Malam Ahmad Ganduje, endorsed Ganduje, commenting that the ward officers were pleased with his leadership methods.
Yet, in a development on Sunday reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, Malam Ja'afar Ganduje, the secretary for another party faction in the ward, addressing journalists, explained that the decision to suspend the chairman was due to his supposed activities against the party.
He mentioned that Ganduje failed to fulfill his financial obligations to the party.
He also blamed Ganduje for causing divisions within the party at the ward level, tarnishing the party's reputation.
“The legitimate executives of the Ganduje district unanimously agreed to a no-confidence vote, instigating a new suspension of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“Firstly, Dr. Ganduje's membership was suspended due to the internal discord he incited amongst party members at the ward level.
“Additionally, the authentic executives resolved to suspend Ganduje over allegations of activities against the party during the 2023 elections, which led to the party's defeat in the state,” he asserted.
SaharaReporters had also covered how a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order last Wednesday morning, restricting Ganduje from associating himself as a party member.
The court decreed that Ganduje must cease overseeing any activities concerning APC's NWC.
Yet, Ganduje has successfully acquired a court injunction preventing his suspension from the dominant APC.
In a legal document, dated April 17, 2024, with Suit No. FHC/KN/CS/122/2021, reported by SaharaReporters on Thursday, Ganduje applied for a counter-motion Exparte on April 16, 2024, before Justice A. M. Liman at the Federal High Court in Kano.
In the filing, Ganduje sought an injunction from the “Honourable Court to prevent all Respondents, their employees, affiliates, or representatives from realizing or acting upon the decision made during the purported urgent assembly of the purported Executive members of APC Ganduje Ward, held in Ganduje Ward of the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State on the 15th April, 2024, until the main application for enforcement of the applicant's fundamental rights is decided.
“An order for all parties to revert to the status quo before the supposed urgent assembly of the purported Executive members of APC Ganduje Ward, and to halt all actions related to this matter until the main application is heard and decided.”
Upon considering Ganduje’s requests, Justice Liman ordered:
“That all Respondents, their employees, affiliates, or representatives are hereby ordered to not proceed with or realize the outcomes of the decision taken during the aforementioned urgent meeting of the APC Ganduje Ward's alleged Executive members, until the primary application for the applicant's fundamental rights is settled.
“That all involved parties are ordered to return to the conditions prior to the said urgent meeting of the alleged Executive members of the APC Ganduje Ward and to pause any action regarding this case until the main application is adjudicated.
“That the case is scheduled for April 30, 2024, for hearing.”
