Fatal Crash of Russian Long-Distance Bomber; One Killed, Another Vanished

The Tu-22M3 crash site

A catastrophic event unfolded in the southern reaches of the Stavropol Territory when a Tupolev Tu-22M3, a supersonic bomber of considerable range, met its demise on a Friday. The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) disclosed this unfortunate event, noting that the crash transpired as the bomber made its way back to its anchor base post-mission.

Speculations hint at a possible mechanical malfunction leading to the disaster, with the MoD confirming that the bomber was devoid of any armaments at the crash time.

Rescue operations reveal that the Tu-22's crew had ejected ahead of the crash. The Governor of Stavropol, Vladimir Vladimirov, announced that out of the ejected crew, two have been found and are in stable condition. However, the grim fate of one crew member was confirmed dead, and another member's whereabouts remain uncertain.

The site of the crash, a field, became evident through photos circulated by the governor, who also confirmed the absence of any ground casualties or infrastructural damage.

Videos making rounds on the internet purportedly capture the bomber's final moments, where it is seen losing control, spiraling, and finally plummeting to the ground amidst flames bursting from its tail section.

The Ukrainian forces have laid a claim, stating the downing of the Russian aircraft as a victory for its air defense capabilities.

Their military intelligence elaborated that the Tu-22 encountered engagement while flying a distance of 300 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, in the Stavropol region's northwestern quadrant, an area flanked by Rostov and the Republic of Kalmykia.
