Driver Arrested for Killing Elderly Couple in Their Abuja Residence

Reports have surfaced about an elderly duo found deceased in their living quarters, succumbing to fatal wounds inflicted by their aggressors earlier in April.

Jonathan Marcus has been taken into custody for the slaying of 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and his spouse, Abiodun Ezekiel, within their living space located in Apo, a district within Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory.

The couple, including a man confined to a wheelchair and his wife, met their demise after their throats were viciously cut with knives by those who attacked them.

A confidant revealed that assailants managed to pry open a window to gain entry, whereupon the victims were discovered drenched in blood.

The confidant disclosed, “Upon failing to receive responses to his calls, one of the sons urged a local acquaintance to inspect his parents' condition. Arriving to find the entrance secured, he was instructed by the son to force his way through the door to unveil the situation within.”

“It was discovered that entry was made through a forcibly opened window, leading to the grim discovery of the couple in a bloodied state,” further noted the confidant.

During a media briefing on a Friday, Bennett Igweh, the FCT Police Commissioner, announced at the police headquarters in Abuja that a detention concerning the murder involved the couple’s ex-driver.

The Commissioner revealed that the authorities located and apprehended the suspect in his Obajana, Kogi State concealment. The arrestee has admitted to entering the residence on the incident’s day, cut the elderly pair’s throats, and absconded with their mobile phones and banking cards.

He narrated, “Prompted by the barbaric slaying of Adebola Ezekiel, aged 80, and his wife Abiodun Ezekiel, aged 79, in their Apo legislative quarters home on April 1st, 2024, around 11 PM, our team initiated an urgent covert probe."

“This examination culminated in the apprehension of Jonathan Marcus, the erstwhile chauffeur for the victims. His capture occurred in Obajana, Kogi state, following the heinous act.”

“The detainee willingly admitted to breaking into the residence on that day, executing the couple, and seizing their telephones and ATM cards. He is soon to be prosecuted.”
