BREAKING: Kano State Throws Accusations At Ex-Governor Ganduje, His Lady, and 6 More For Accepting Braces and Misusing Funds

The government of Kano State, has taken a legal action against their Ex Governor, Ganduje and his partner, Hafsat Umar, Umar Abdullahi Umar, and five other parties. These accusations include eight charges like bribery, embezzlement, and wrong turning of financial assets summing up into billions of naira.

Included in the document- accusation which came in on the 3rd of April; 2024, a list of 15 individuals are set to testify against the accused.

The accused parties are listed as Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, and three companies: Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited..

One specific charge outlines that at some point around January 10, 2016, in Kano within its judicial parameters, Ganduje, while operating in his capacity as the Governor of Kano, and being a government official therein, is alleged to have corruptly solicited and accepted a payment of $200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) for his benefit. This sum supposedly came from a contract beneficiary that the Kano State Government, under his orders and endorsement as governor, had awarded.

This said conduct is described as an act of official misconduct, violating and being subject to penalty under Section 22 of The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as updated), Law No2 of 2009, representative of Kano State's legislations.

Further details in the document accuse that between around February 10, 2017, Ganduje, amidst his tenure and public service within the Kano State Government, agreed to or caused to do a prohibited act. Namely, in a dishonest or corrupt benefit to himself, he allegedly received a kickback totaling $213,000 (Two Hundred And Thirteen Thousand United States Dollars). This money purportedly originated from individuals and firms either seeking or already engaged in contractual projects with the Kano State Government, including the refurbishment of Kantin Kwari textile market, funneled through an intermediary contractor as a bribe.

This has made Ganduje, the ex-governor, gets accused of committing the crime and abuse of power, which led to breaking the law of Section 22 of The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as updated), Law No2 of 2009 in tune with the law of Kano State Nigeria.
