Two Dead, Six Injured in Memphis Block Party Shooting
"Late Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee, a block party turned tragic when a shooting left two people dead and at least six others injured, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Initially, reports indicated that 16 individuals had been struck by gunfire; however, a subsequent review clarified that the actual number of victims was eight, with two fatalities occurring at the scene.
"The incident occurred on the 2400 Block of Carnes Avenue, where police responded around 7:29 p.m. to find five individuals with gunshot wounds."Three of these victims were rushed to hospitals in critical condition, while two men were pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, 11 more gunshot victims, identified later, had transported themselves to various hospitals by private vehicles.
Of the six surviving injured parties, only one remains in a critical condition at Regional One, with one of the victims having been discharged from the hospital. The police explained the initial discrepancy in victim count by noting that some had been reported multiple times.
"The party, attended by 200 to 300 people, was held without the necessary permits, adding to the chaotic nature of the evening. "In the wake of this violent incident, the Memphis Police Department continues its investigation, sharing updates through their official channels on X (formerly Twitter) and addressing the community's urgent concerns about safety and regulation at local events.
