Halt Over-Dramatization of Yahaya Bello's Capture Unless It's a Film Scene – Atiku's Faction to EFCC

Daniel Bwala, who once spoke for Atiku Abubakar's Presidential Campaign in the 2023 elections from the Peoples Democratic Party, believes that it's unnecessary for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have issued a proclamation declaring Yahaya Bello, the ex-governor of Kogi State, wanted.

Bwala urges the agency tasked with fighting corruption to carry out its duties quietly, unless they're rehearsing for a film that features the agency along with past governors.

  • The commission has openly called for anyone with information about his location to immediately contact them or the closest police station.

In a response posted on his X account on Friday, Bwala mentioned that the EFCC didn't utilize the ACJA or the approach they had used at the home of another former governor, Rochas Okorocha of Imo state.

According to him, the operatives at Bello’s Abuja home were aware of the individuals who escorted him away in their presence yet did nothing to stop it.

Remember, in May 2022, EFCC agents invaded Okorocha's residence by breaking through the ceiling after a six-hour standoff to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, the ACJA Bwala references is the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act, established by the National Assembly, which outlines how criminal trials for offences recognized by the National Assembly and other charges punishable in Abuja should proceed.

This Act aims to enhance the efficiency of criminal justice institutions, accelerate the delivery of justice, ensure society is safeguarded from criminal activities, and protect the rights and interests of the accused, defendant, and victim.

In his post titled ‘EFCC V YAYA BELLO’, Bwala argued: "Unless EFCC is conducting a screenplay reenactment with Yaya Bello about the organizations and ex-governors, tagging him as ‘wanted’ serves no real purpose.

"You attempted an arrest at his dwelling without enforcing ACJA or, at the very least, what was done in Okorocha’s scenario.

"That you allowed someone to ferry him away when you knew exactly who it was.

"Considering both he and the current governor have security teams from the police and SSS, who are supposed to report their charges’ movements to their superiors, it’s clear his location is no mystery.

"Being aware the Police and SSS possess technology capable of geo-tracking and locating, yet you didn't seek their assistance.

"Requesting the public for information on someone whose location you should be well aware of comes off as negligent. Please, proceed with your responsibilities."
