Rodrigo De Paul along with Samuel Lino's goals in the first half lead Atletico Madrid to a narrow victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Entering the game, Atletico Madrid boasted an impressive unbeaten streak at home during the Champions League knockout stages under the guidance of Diego Simeone, securing victories in 10 out of 16 matches and drawing the remaining six.

From the outset, Simeone’s team showcased their prowess, controlling the game and applying heavy pressure on Dortmund's half. Their aggressive play paid off early when a mistake by Dortmund's goalie, Gregor Kobel, set up Rodrigo De Paul for the first goal. Kobel attempted a short pass to Ian Maatsen, who inadvertently redirected the ball to De Paul, allowing the Argentine to easily score.

The visiting team's defense faltered again, allowing Antoine Griezmann to intercept the ball and swiftly pass it to Samuel Lino who slotted home the second goal at the 32-minute mark.

Dortmund's performance improved significantly after halftime and they managed to score a goal for consolation through Sebastien Haller, who capitalized on a deflected pass. The game nearly took a dramatic turn when Julian Brandt almost equalized with a header from a cross by Ryerson in the final moments, but the shot hit the crossbar and exited play.

Atletico Madrid won the game by 2-1 which is a great advantage heading into the second leg fixture.
